Types of wine

The types of more frequent wines can be divided in two big groups:

1. Wine fine

A wine is considered fine when it is elaborated exclusively starting from defined grapes as fine for the National Institute of Vitivinicultura (INV).

The grapes fine classics inks are: cabernet sauvignon, malbec, merlot, syrah, pinot noir, tempranillo, bonarda, sangiovese, etc. The white ones are: chardonnay, torrontés, Pedro Giménez, sauvignon blanc, semillon, chenin, ugny blanc, viognier, etc.

Inside the fine wines they exist two big families in turn:

  • Varietal Wine
According to the Argentinean regulation, they are the wines made with a minimum of 80% of oneself grape. That is to say, a wine varietal malbec has at least 80 % of malbec, but can also have until 100%.

  • Generic Wine (or of court)
When there is more than a grape and none overcomes established 80% for the varietales, the wine calls himself of court or generic, because it is elaborated with different assembled wines or cut.

2. Common wine

A common wine is elaborated with common grapes. The common grapes that are good to elaborate these wines are for example the Creole grapes, cherry, muscatel, etc.
