Santiago del Estero is part of the formation of the park chaqueño, with scarce incidence of the forest tucumana-oranense and the spinal forest. Four subregions are distinguished:

Park of Chaco and dry savannas
Grassland Chaco and savannas
Monte Chaco
It covers the departments of Ojo de Agua, Quebracho, Choya and Guasayan. The main species that characterize it are tusca, churqui, atamisqui, piquillin, coconut, horco molle, horco quebracho, mistol, locust, chañar, jarilla and tala.
Chaco forest
It covers the fourth thirds of the province.The characteristic species are red santiagueño quebracho, white quebracho, mistol, brea, atamisqui, garabato, black locust, stick cross, tusca. The two varieties of quebracho are the fundamental species of the original forest. In the low forest it is located the mistol, brea and the locust. The rest conforms the arbustal invader, alternated with old grassland areas subject to indiscriminate pruning.
Park of Chaco and dry savannas
it is characterized by the combination in many grass forms and forests, appearing some bushes in different proportions. In the southeast of the Gral. Ibarra district and to the east of the Gral. Taboada district are the quebrachos santiagueño and chaqueño. To the species already mentioned the guayacan can be added, the palo borracho, the white locust and among the grasses the aibe.
Grassland Chaco and savannas
They are linked with the Humid Pampas. There are big areas free of forest where cattle exploitation is bred. It involves the districts of Rivadavia, Mitre, Aguirre and part of Ibarra and Moreno. The physiognomy of the vegetation is dominated by the arboreal savanna, accompanied by grassland spaces.
