The elements of the fauna santiagueña correspond to a very wide group that extends from Paraguay and south of Brazil until the plains pampeanas.
The primates are represented by three species: the howling monkey or carayá, the one fell and the miriquiná.
The characteristic felines of the place are the calls ocelot, eyrá or Moorish cat, colored cat, mountain cat, and the biggest: yaguareté and puma.
Other carnivores are the mayuato, coatí, ferret, zorrino, river wolf and the red fox.
The rodents are very numerous and varied. One of the most typical is the carpincho; there are also agutíes, cuises, quiyás, tapetíes, lauchas and field mice.
They are also plentiful in the region, the tatú cart, in numeric setback, mules and quirquinchos. In the oriental sector they also exist bears anthills.
Among the hoofed ones they can make an appointment the corzuelas, deer, mount chanchos or taitetú, and the pecaríes.
They exist more than 300 species of birds, among them the white herons, flamingos, ducks, teros, storks, crows, caranchos, hawks, eagles, sparrow hawks, parrots, doves, cowherds, cardinals, starlings, tijerillas, oven-birds, kakuy and partridges.
In the county there are 36 species of reptiles, as the boa, the false coral, the viper green arborícola, and ophidian poisonous as yarará, bell and coral.
