This natural port with 28000 inhabitants was one of the elected points (each 100 km) for the Marina for the discharge of posts, threads, facilities and personal of the telegraph from Buenos Aires to the Cabo Vírgenes, ordered by the general Roca and that it was built between 1900 and 1905.
At the end of last century expanded the cattle raising ovina patagónica. The wool came out for this port in having made an effort shipment tasks, because there was not jetty.
