It is a migradora species of great sport value, according to some and making a relation to its size, with characteristics of combat efficiency similar to the gilded one. Its fishing always is accompanied of several acrobatic jumps outside the water, is resistant and very fighter. It frequents shady places and with vegetation, commonly the tracks, feeding itself on fruits, organic vegetables, rest, etc. Its body of thin and compressed form, small head, yellow coloration salmon, with the most greenish back and the fin of great volume of alive red color with a clear black strip throughout the radii of great volume average. Once died his meat it takes the color from the salmon, that intensifies with the baking. For that reason many ribereños call it this way.

It makes important migrations, in spring in reduction of the rivers and with the first colds it begins the ascent.

It lays eggs of December to January and it has a relatively slow growth. The units that have not turned years both, coming from the Delta of the Parana and the River of the Silver have between 9 and 11 cm ., a unit of 16 years registered a stature of 60 cm . It is little abundant respect to the other sport species of the river basin Parano Platense. It has a length of 65 cm . and its weight reaches up to 8 kg .
