It is one of the few representatives of ictiofauna patagónica. Of form esbelta and hydrodynamics, the second nonfatty one with radios, protráctil mouth and a stole silverplated in both flanks have two dorsal fins - on the lateral line.

It is a common inhabitant of the dams on the Negro river and the lakes Pellegrini and Mari Menuco; in them Buenosairean pejerrey coexists with the introduced species, reason why have been hibridaciones.

In its pure forms is it in the dams on the Limay river, in atmospheres of the National Park the Larches, in the lakes Rosario and Lezama and several other mirrors of the province of the Chubut. The fishing normally with bait in the rivers Negro and Colorado and with artificial decoys in the rest of Patagonia. Taking with much caution and gentleness small flies, being very interesting the fishing with this modality.
