It is an endemic inhabitant of the Atlantic southwestern coast and is it in in all the coast of Argentina , part of Brazil , until the Strait of Magellan and the coasts of the Malvinas Islands .

The anal fin is almost symmetrical to the second ridge but a little but long. It is an aggressive pregiver of habits pelágico - demersales. It is fed on small fish of several species, mainly anchoítas. Also it consumes some pulpy and they do not scorn crustaceans. It is fished embarked and it admitted artificial decoys. In the Buenosairean coasts January and February are the optimal months of capture. This species even fishes with the modality "fly", for which the fishermen identify the places of hunting of these fish revealed by the concentration of birds ictiófagas that take advantage of the rest secondarily.
