It is one of the great fish of river and one of the most coveted by the fishermen; by its meat of excellent flavor, as also by the characteristics of its capture, taking itself this one in a hardened fighter. Its body is compressed laterally and its circular contour. Its coloration is grayish more or less clear or dark, with small black spots in flanks.

The ventral fins of reddish color orange, like the pectoral ones, the anal and the volume; these two last of more alive tone and wild black. The greater adult units go up to around the 60 cm. in length overall, with weight of up to 18 kg ; the average term would be of 40- 50 cm . and a weight of 4 to 7 kg . Its feeding consists of the ingestion of fruits, crustaceans and vegetables. It is a migrador fish, whose artificial reproduction occurs with the young in captivity in systems of pools. At the moment its young in the province of Missions is promoting itself.
