It is a fish of high sport value. In the south of the Chubut a celebration is made that it has as main axis a competition of fishing of this species. It is moderately in deep waters, in the salmoneras calls, places with caves of hard bottoms where a territory settles down and defines. This so precise location at a disadvantage puts it before the masificación of satelite devices, used by many fishermen to identify the salmoneras and to assure the fishing. The salmons of sea feed themselves mainly on crustaceans, although it does not scorn to fish and calamaries. They live about 30 years, the females more than the males, and surpass the meter of length frequently. Its body is high and robust place setting of grudges, with the great head, undresses and provided with an semi-oblique terminal mouth, with the very heavy superior lip, that makes identifiable easily. Also the bases of the pectoral fins and the volume, smaller have grudges than those of the body. The lateral line makes a straight route from opérculo to the fin of great volume. It has one long dorsal fin that is continued throughout the body from behind the head arriving at pedúnculo of great volume. It displays five thorns that increase gradually of size towards the later end of the body, followed of 26 soft radios of so large uniform, longer than the last thorn. The anal fin is shorter and finishes to the same height that the ridge. The volume is truncated. It is a fish of great beauty and presents/displays a different coloration between sexes. Both sexes have six vertical spots that begin behind the dorsal fin and they are continued until the tail. The male is of a darker gray, with hardly visible bands, whereas the females have a coloration of brown base, with some yellow circular spots in the lateral head and vertical bands that are distinguished perfectly. In both sexes the volume is dark, with a remarkable black spot of circular contour in its base. The fins anal, pectoral and pelvic are of dark base, with brown spots and yellow free edge |
