This provincial reservation was created in 1975 by means of the Provincial Law No. 3.509, it possesses a surface of 215.000 there is, this located in the south center of the County of The Rioja , Dpto. Gral. Lavalle.

History and antecedents of their creation

The APN, it has demonstrated for some time, their interest for the conservation of Talampaya. In this respect technical studies they exist from the year 1972, as the one carried out by the Engineer Belt Moon that you/they supported the project of creation of a National Park in the place. Time later, the Provincial Park Talampaya is believed with an original surface of 250.000 hectares that was reduced later on at 215.000.

General description


Talampaya is one of the big natural scenarios of the Argentina . To the natural values of the area it owes sumársele their cultural importance. Numerous manifestations of prehispanic cultures that inhabited the area make one 1.000 years, they populate the reddish walls and rocks of Talampaya. A populated natural mural of thirteen meters of longitude of petroglifos, maybe the adult up to now registered for the Argentina , next to other dispersed ones for the place, they constitute a cultural patrimony of incalculable value that should be preserved to perpetuity for the future generations. They appear in the area sedimentary deposits of the Permian and the rich Triásico in fossils, especially of big amphibians and reptiles. Of the provincial route No. 26 that goes to Villa Union, leave a paved road of about 14 kilometers of longitude, at the end of which you arrives to the entrance of the Reservation. There is a parking playón, to the area of it camps and the center of reports to the visitor, endowed with a bar and sanitariums. They are carried out exits in vans until arriving to "the door" of the great canyon of Talampaya .

There you a small circuit travels where numerous mortars are appreciated on a great rock horizontal and attractive petroglifos in the superior part of a gigantic rock block located to the foot of the walls. In the proximities the Black Mogote rises that is a formation of hard and black basaltic rocks, the visitor accustomed to the trekking it won't find bigger difficulties to arrive to its summit. From there one has an unbeatable panoramic vision of the plains and neighboring mountains.
