To protect one of the purest and extensive forests in existent Arrayán in our country (the other forest is protected in the Island Victoria, P.N. Nahuel Huapi).
Given their exceptional ones characteristic natural, and to assure their maximum protection, preventing all alteration possibility or destruction, has declared it to him National Park, in spite of being included inside the National Park Nahuel Huapi. Anyway, it forms next to this last oneself administrative unit and of handling.
In the Peninsula of Quetrihué , neighbor to the small city of Villa La Angostura , we find an unique landscape in the world that has given our Patagonia as much international fame as the Waterfalls of the Iguazú or the Glacier Expert Moreno. It is, without a doubt, of one of the most beautiful places in Argentina . There we will find the purest and extensive forests in Arrayán, a native tree of attractive beauty. Their bark is of color cinnamon and it is covered with white irregular stains; it is cold but at the same time very soft to the tact. The game of lights and shades that it can be appreciated in the sunny days, constitute a fascinating show.
In that moment the whole forest is flooded of a light uniform cinnamon, sprinkled of clear stains, imitating in great scale the aspect of the bark of the species. The Arrayán is a characteristic tree of the forests of the region Andean patagónica and it usually grows beside the lakes and rivers. Although it can be observed being part of the forest together with other species scatteredly, in the Peninsula of Quetrihué will be it forming an almost pure forest, embracing an approximate surface of 12 has.
This tree, of very slow growth, reaches heights from 12 to 15 meters and its trunk ends up having about 50 centimeters of diameter. It possesses a foliage of beautiful green color, composed by small and brilliant leaves that don't fall in winter. Their flowers are of an immaculate target and they arrive to the two centimeters of diameter.
During the floración that takes place in summer, the glasses of the Arrayanes change aspect notably: it seemed that their dark green foliage was sprinkled with white painting. In this time it is easy for the visitor to recognize the Arrayanes intermingled in the forest. In the Park they are also you present other species that accompany the Arrayán, as the Sacred Stick, the Maitén, the Laurel and the Cinnamon tree.
Among the birds inhabitants of the forest it is to the Thrush Patagónico and to the Chucao, while the banks of the lake Nahuel Huapi is frequented by Hualas or Big Macáes and Garzas Witches.
Among the most characteristic mammals is the Fox Colorado, the Zorrino, the Pudú and the Huillín. The Park can be visited from Villa La Angostura, through a beautiful pedestrian path and from S.C. of Bariloche, with a trip for via lacustrine. The forest of Arrayanes you travels on a path entablonado, which avoids the visitors to step the floor and the renovales of Arrayán.
One of the attractive faunísticos of this reservation composes it the birds, represented for more than 170 species, although not all are present in the same time of the year. The most characteristic birds in this natural area, are the aquatic ones as the Ipacaá, the Caraú and the Biguá.
This last one is characterized to be very good diver and in general it is usually posed him to him in a stick or trunk with their extended wings to dry them in the sun. They are also present the Jacana, the Gallaretas and showy species as the Garza Live, the Garza Blanca and the Garza Trims glass that are generally inns in the Ceibos that surround to the lagoon.
The forest on the other hand is visited by Thrushes that frequently look for in the floor worms, Real Carpenters that look for insects under the bark of the trees with its strong and sharp picks and they catch them with its long and sticky language, and among the bushes, the Blue Tacuarita that agile and restless, moves quickly among the vegetation, with the line always lifted. In the beach it is very common of seeing the Garza Blanca, the Gull Brown Hood, and in the riverside juncales, the Junquero, Yellow Ala's Starling and the Seven Colors of Lagoon.
Although the Refuge is recognized by the quantity and variety of birds that inhabit it, other beings they exist, less visible as the amphibians. By way of example we will mention to the Creole Frog that lives in lagoons and temporary puddles, the Frog of the Bramble that has the capacity to change the color of their body according to the sustrato where is, varying from the brilliant green until the brown one and the Common Toad.
Representing the reptiles is the Lizard Overo, also called "Iguana", typical inhabitant of the Refuge. It can be seen it crossing the paths quickly or simply sunbathing during the hours of heat. Their diet is varied, feeds of insects, eggs, mollusks, fish, rodents, amphibians and fruits. In the lagoons it is frequent to see the Colored Turtle and that of Long Neck, have more than enough stones or trunks and rushing to the water when perceiving some strange sound. Although relatively scarce due to the scarce surface of the area and the urbanization pressure and recreation that support, the species of existent mammals are difficult to observe due to their small size and to their night habits.
Among the most prominent we find the Coipo or "Otter", rodent very associated to the atmospheres of fresh water. feeds mainly of the vegetation that grows beside the bodies of water that it uses to build floating nests in those that rests.
Another very frequent rodent is the Cuis Pampeano that is displaced by the Rat Norway, an exotic species. The Bats, only mammals able to fly, are accustomed to it turns at night and feeds mainly of insects. Another mammal very difficult of observing, but existent it is the Weasel Ovary, the female of this marsupial, it possesses in you suckle them a cutaneous pleat or bag, where it takes their breedings in the period of nursing and in general it is in the sausal climbed in some tree.
