It is located on the RN14, it is inmersa in a landscape of exuberant vegetation. It arose in 1908 starting from their first resident, Carlos Enrique Mecking, of who must take the name. In 1926 the Dr. Héctor Barreyro, governor of the territory of Missions , changed him the name for that of the, political Leandro N. Alem.
Their economy is sustained in the agricultural and forest activity; it reaches important yields in the cultivation of the dull herb, tea and tobacco in the varieties Virginia , Missionary Creole, Kentucky and Burley. It is the main tobacco area of the county and the seat of the industry. Other important cultivations are the soya, the cotton, the cane of sugar, the citruses and the manioc. In the last time it is experienced with the production of peaches. To this sinks the afforestation of resinous pines (Ptaeda and Pinus ellioti), the pine Paraná (Araucaria brasiliensis) and the giant paradise.
