At the moment it dams 6 to 8 million cubic meters of water for watering and consumption of the capital, this dike was built in the place traditionally call The Births, where the river is born The Sallows, of scarce flow, almost "a short stream with river" title that, during the colonial time, made necessary scrupulous dispositions to take advantage of it better and to distribute it with justice among the neighbors. The legislation and the works, then rudimentary, they received strong impulse toward 1870, in the doctor's government Benjamin of the Vega who began a progressive period, characterized by a hydraulic emprendimiento and of irrigation.
