| History of Belen de Escobar |

This city of 128.651 inhabitants was founded in 1873 by Eugenia Tapia de Cruz, already in 1582, February 7, Juan de Garay granted, in recognition to his services, to gift Alonso of Escobar a” mount Island” to 5 leagues of Buenos Aires, next to the river Luján.
The habit denominated to this region then Cañada or Island of Escobar, in 1751, the Bethlemitas acquired of who was then proprietor of this grace, Nicolás of the Quintana, 3.000 sticks of front of Escobar's Cañada, for a league and mediates of bottom. Between 1755 and 1779, the Order goes coming off of these lands that were bought by Gervasio of the Cruz progressively. Eugenia Wall of Cruz inherited them who increased even more the extension of these properties, deciding then to be founded in this place a town to which denominated Belen.
With the arrival of the railroad in 1876 the station was denominated Escobar it was affirmed the region like area of agricultural production.
In 1924 a Japanese citizen of name settled down in Escobar Gashu who discovered the kindness of this area for the production of flowers and it began the first big cultivations, bringing Japanese workers and in 1929 it arrived to Escobar the first contingent of which would be an important Japanese colony of florists.
They also settled down producing of Portuguese, Italian, Belgian and Dutch origin,
With almost 400 establishments, it is at the present time the main producing of flowers of the province.
The numerous nurseries, with enormous offer in plants and flowers, are a permanent attraction, especially the weekends. It calls himself to Escobar, National Capital of the Flower. |
