History of itatí
 

Itatí, is a Guaraní word that means "stone tip". It was an old indigenous reduction, founded in 1615.

It summons people from the whole country due to its famous traditional pilgrimages. The most important ones are: July 16th, when the Virgin's Papal Coronation is celebrated, and September 21st when the Youth's Pilgrimage is carried out, with carts thrown by oxen, on horse, or on foot, until the Virgin's altar in Itatí.

The Basilica was inaugurated in 1950, it is one of the biggest of the world, since it can house ten thousand people.

It is 83 meters high and its dome, is 28 meters diameter.
