The town of Santa Maria is located at 320 km to the north of San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca.

It is considered the National Capital of Archeology. The mines of the Aclaines, Loma Rica and the most important field of petrographs in South America are remarkable.

This town has an important restaurant and hotel infrastructure Fuerte Quemado, Chañar Puco, La Quebrada and San Jose are worth visiting.

The Santa Maria river allows the development of the valley of Santa Maria, as regards agriculture. Aromatic herbs, vines and nut trees are grown in the region.

The population of the town is 7,600 inhabitants. The industrial activity is little, it is represented by the processing of herbs, spaghetti factories, wine vaults, sweet production and home products, which are processed according to the local needs.
