Walk for the oasis of Andalgalá, visiting an old colonial mayorazgo, the evocativa square of a town and a factory of exquisite sweet regional.

Circuit of 10 round trip km for a paved road, for half-day, in all season.

 

Leave Andalgalá for the RP47 toward the north and travel the fertile agricultural fields with olive groves, quinces and walnuts. After 4 km it will arrive to the stay of the one Mayorazgo de Huasan

 

Mayorazgo de Huasan

 

It forms a vast property agricultural-cattleman, extended until those Nevados del Aconquija , that reached to have 30.000 there is. Today carries out diverse activities, standing out their establishment aceitero with capacity for 110 rhyme of pure oil of olive. It can visit one another requesting permission

Their origin like stay goes back at the end of the XVII century, when the partiality of Indian huasanes. that inhabited these territories, it was granted in grace to gift Francisco of it Snows and Castile , founder of the strong one of Andalgalá (1658), after the wars calchaquíes.

In 1771, the country property was inherited by the powerful landowner gift Luis José Díaz of The Rock. who to avoid the subdivision of their valuable properties, for effects of successive inheritances, decided to "link them" legally, establishing the Mayorazgo of Huasán, October 1768.

To link a country property or a house to a Mayorazgo meant that these could not be burdened neither to sell, owing them to inherit the son bigger than each successive generation. The properties of this Mayorazgo included the country property of Huasán, goods in Singuil and Tucumán, and an enormous territory to the west, in Antofagasta of the Sierra

The group remained undivided for three generations of first-born of the same family.

Don Miguel, his last heir, was governor of Catamarca in 1830-31. Defeated by Facundo Quiroga it emigrated to Bolivia , where it died. In that time the legal institution of the Mayorazgo had disappeared for disposition of the Assembly of the XIII year and the bonds of properties were dissolved. The Bolivian government, being been worth of a testament awarded to Miguel Díaz of The Rock, it annexed to their territory the jurisdiction of Antofagasta of the Sierra, the one that didn't integrate Argentinean territory up to 1899 again, as Government of The Andes.

The Treasury of Huasán of Andalgalá conserved, in fact, the historical name. At the beginning of the XX century it belonged to the English noblemen Ricardo and Joël Blamey. In this period, the outstanding investigating Samuel Lafone Quevedo (brother-in-law of one of the owners), carried out important archaeological discoveries in the fields of Huasán.

Many of these pieces integrate today the collections of the Archaeological Museum of The Silver, of which was managing.

Later on, the stay was acquired by the Greek manager Victor Zouninus whose descendants are the current proprietors. Zouninus and their wife began works of reconstruction of old colonial architectures and the Mayorazgo opened up from Huasán to a new stage.

Continue the Walk for the same route toward the north and, after 500 m to the right, crossing the small river Chaquiago, it will arrive at the Factory of sweet of Chaquiago

It is famous for their delicious ones sweet regional in pasta and in helmet, as cayote, quince, zapallo, anco, fig. Their specialties are the quince glaceado and the candy of milk homemade type.

The small town of Chaquiago is surrounded by a picturesque landscape, with aguaribay groves, poplars and drunk sticks. Its charming square, surrounded by orange trees, is atrium of a simple neoclassical church, where it is worshipped to the Mr. of the Health.

In the block of in front observes a long facade of Italian style, formed by several contiguous houses, characteristic of the urban residential architecture of the time. The pleasant rustic environment has changed little from the first decades of the century and it is very well conserved.
